Shimla: The State Council for Science, Technology & Environment, H.P., is organizing 24th State level Children’s Science Congress from November 15-18, 2016, at Govt. (Boys) Senior Secondary School, Nahan, H.P. in collaboration with Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan, Department of Education, Himachal Pradesh and Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi today on 15th November,2016. The focal theme of the Children Science Congress-2016 is “Science, Technology & Innovation for Sustainable Development with special emphasis on Accessibility for persons with disability”. The theme encourages children to be sensitive towards persons with disability [Divyangjan]. The Children’s Science Congress was initiated in 1993 by National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Since then the HP State Council for Science, Technology & Environment has been organizing Children’s Science Congress every year. The SCSTE organizes the Children’s Science Congress in all 12 districts of the State. Since its beginning in 1993, the Children’s Science Congress is reflecting a wide range of critical and innovative ideas of the children through their innovative project work on a variety of highly relevant local issues from different parts of the State.

Children’s Science Congress is the only Science popularization programme in the State which has such an enormous outreach and has been successful in inculcating scientific temper in the society through child scientists. Exhibitions from different Govt. Departments, State and Private Universities, Science & Technology Councils from neighbouring states and Agastya Internation Foundation etc. are being displayed to inculcate scientific temperament among the children of all age groups.

A number of competitions (Scientific Survey Report, Science Quiz, Science Models, Maths Olympiad, Science Skit etc) are being organized during this Congress in which more than 600 students and teachers from all over the State are participating.

Resource persons/ Scientists from National level organizations, representatives from Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and senior officers from the Department of Environment, Science & Technology Govt. of Himachal Pradesh are also participating in this programme.

Sh. Ajay Bahadur Singh, Chairman, HIMFED was the Chief Guest during inaugural function and Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, Uttarakhand Council of Science & Technology was the Guest of Honour. During their speech, they mentioned the role of Children’s Science Congress for Science popularization programme in the State which has such an enormous outreach and has been successful in inculcating scientific temper in the society through child scientists. Sh. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Member Secretary gave vote of thanks.
