SHIMLA: <\/strong>A spokesperson of the HP State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB)<\/strong> informed here today that the board has issued show cause notices under the<\/strong> provision of Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, <\/strong>1981<\/strong> to Ultratech<\/strong> Cement Plant, Baga in district Solan for violation of pollution norms.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

He said that stack emission monitoring of the unit of M\/s Ultratech<\/strong> Cement Plant, Baga was conducted last year, and it was found that the results<\/strong> of stack emission monitoring are not conforming to the prescribed standards.Thereafter, the regional office of HPSPCB issued notices to the unit to take<\/strong> corrective measures for smooth operation of APCDs to ensure compliance of<\/strong> environment standards”, he said.<\/strong> Earlier, the results of stack emission monitoring of the unit was carried<\/strong> out at cement mill, raw mill and coal mill and found above the prescribed<\/strong> norms, he said adding that action was initiated under various sections of the Act<\/strong> for violation of stack emission against the unit as well.<\/strong> The National Green Tribunal (NGT) have directed SPCBs to levy and<\/strong> recover environment compensation from violating units, said the spokesperson,<\/strong> adding that the state gave several opportunities, but the unit was still not<\/strong> complying with the directions issued.<\/strong> Now the HPSPCB has sought reply from the unit within <\/strong>15<\/strong> days as to why<\/strong> penal action should not be initiated against the unit and why environmental<\/strong> compensation should not be imposed as per the directions of the NGT, said the<\/strong> spokesperson.<\/strong> He said that the provisions of the Act attract fine up to Rs. <\/strong>10,000<\/strong> and<\/strong> imprisonment up to seven years or both, as the case may be.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Yet in another case of its type, ambient air and stack emission<\/strong> monitoring of M\/s Ultratech Cement Plant, Baga was conducted to check<\/strong> emissions. The result of ambient air and stack emission was collected, which<\/strong> was not conforming to prescribed environmental standards. A show cause<\/strong> notice was issued for the non-compliance on the shortcomings. He said that the<\/strong> unit was once again inspected for not arranging water sprinkling system in the<\/strong> plant area and dust emission was observed due to vehicle movement. Besides,<\/strong> the sheet cover to the coal mill area was also not provided. As a result a show<\/strong> cause notice has been issued to frame its reply within <\/strong>15<\/strong> days, said the<\/strong> spokesperson<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
