COVID vaccination for 15-18 age group will be started from 3rd January 2022

COVID vaccination for children (15-18 years) and COVID precaution dose for Health Care Workers, Front Line Workers and those above 60 years with comorbidities

The Government Spokesperson today said that keeping in view the recent global surge of COVID-19 cases and detection of Omicron variant, the ‘COVID-19 Working Group of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI)’ and ‘Standing Technical Scientific Committee (STSC)’ of NTAGI has decided to prioritize & cover the children for COVID-19 vaccination. He told that the COVID-19 vaccination of children in the age-group of 15-18 years will be started from 3rd January 2022.
The Government Spokesperson informed that the beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years will be able to register on Co-WIN portal. All those whose birth year is 2007 or before, shall be eligible for the vaccination. He said that the beneficiaries can self-register, online through an existing account on Co-WIN or can also register by creating a new account through a unique mobile number. He told that in case online registration of the beneficiaries is not possible due to concerns like poor internet connectivity etc., they can register onsite by the verifier/vaccinator in facilitated registration mode.
The Government Spokesperson said that the appointments can be booked online or onsite (walk-in). He further informed that for the new beneficiaries “Covaxin” will be used for vaccination, as this is the only safe available vaccine for the age-group 15-18 years. The concerned guidelines will come into effect from 3rd January 2022 & will be reviewed from time to time.
The Government Spokesperson further informed that another dose of COVID-19 vaccine would be provided to those Health Care Workers (HCWs) & Front Line Workers (FLWs) who have received two doses, and all persons aged 60 years and above with comorbidities, who have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, will on Doctor’s advice be provided a precaution dose from 10th January 2022. The precautionary dose would be given to those who have completed 9 months (39 weeks) from the date of administration of 2nd dose.
The Government Spokesperson appealed that the parents should come forward to get their children vaccinated and protect them from COVID. He also appealed to the Health Care Workers (HCWs) & Front Line Workers (FLWs) and those above 60 years with comorbidities who have completed 9 months from the date of administration of 2nd dose to ensure there precautionary dose.
